Get
Ready for Your Baby and for Parenthood - Before
Conception
A four
part series which
will cover the following important
areas of preparation:
• Learning to track
yourself, ground, and center - essential tools for conscious parenting.
Conscious parenting means being aware
enough of yourself to know when you
are making decisions from a grounded
and centered place, and when you are
not. This requires a basic level of
tracking skills and I will be teaching
and developing these with you throughout
the series. Many of us have been unable
to inhabit our bodies fully or consistently
as a result of early stress and trauma.
I will teach you a simple exercise
for coming into your midline, and another
for grounding and clearing your space.
Both these exercises are really easy
to use and
make a huge difference to the way you
feel, and your level of presence in
your life and body. It's impossible
to be aware of what you are doing as
a parent if you
are not present, so we will be building
and practicing these new practical
tools with each other throughout the
series. I will also ask you to play
with them in between classes, and to
share your experiences of this with
the group. These new skills will positively
affect your family's quality of life,
bonding, and your birthing outcomes.
• The latest
research and teachings in Prenatal
and Peri-natal Psychology & Health. Karen belongs to the
Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology
and Health and has access to the
latest research findings in this exciting field.
•
Group support - we will come together in a community
of support to share our knowledge and experience
with each other and co-create a safe environment
for this very important work.
PREPARATION BEFORE CONCEPTION AFFECTS
BIRTH OUTCOMES
•
Becoming aware of your own journey into
life because
that affects the way you bring in your children, and can restrict
your choices and affect birth outcomes. • Communicating
with the spirit of your baby.
•
Exploring the parenting
you received:
From conception onwards the parenting
you received can be repeated with your
own children, really affecting the
kind of parent you want to be now. Remember
your childhood
experiences, make space in yourself
for new choices, and build new resources
that support the parent you want to
be
now. This
includes looking at your ancestral
imprints and
making
choices about what you do and don’t
want to pass on to your own children.
•
Pelvic Bowl Health: Somatic/emotional/spiritual
preparation for baby.
Women can hold stress, trauma and early imprints
in their womb/reproductive systems.
Using gentle somatic
exercises
we will see what needs supporting to
create a healthy nest for your baby’s
first nine months. This is not about having
to heal everything that you are carrying,
but more about raising your awareness of
what is likely to affect your parenting,
gestation and
birthing
and bonding experiences. When you can recognize
a sensation in your body, or a particular
felt-sense, as a familiar imprint from
'back then', then
you have the skill of differentiation,
and this is very important for good parenting.
I will teach you this.
•
How do we remember our earliest
experiences and how do they imprint in
us? You will learn about the nature
of early memory through experiential
exercises and Karen’s
experience and knowledge.
•
You will each answer the question “What
will it take for me to be ready? ” Out
of this we will take time to set important
intentions for
the series and for your future
parenting goals.

Journey Into Life - 6 part beginning class series with Patricia Meadows & Karen Melton, in Novato, CA
Join us in a gentle beginning exploration of early developmental imprints from pre-conception to birth and the principles of Prenatal & Perinatal Psychology & Health, in Novato, CA. This series is suitable both for healing and therapy professionals, and for curious seekers.
We will take a gentle journey into how it was for you to come into this life and into your conception, and begin to discover what it was like for you to be in the womb. You will learn about your birth and immediately afterwards too, as well as how your whole “journey into life” may be affecting your life and your relationships today.
Much of our current beliefs, and
the way we create our world, originates
in this early time of our life. Becoming
aware of these influences allows us to
better understand ourselves, our patterns
of behavior, and how we relate to others,
including our children.
This six part series offers you the opportunity to begin exploring your Journey Into Life, it is not a deep process group, but is a gentle beginning exploration of your origins. For deeper work go to 'One on One' or 'Womb Process Workshops'. Karen also offers Professional Supervision.
Would be of interest to:
- Pre-pregnant and pregnant couples
- Counselors, therapists, healers, etc who would like more awareness of this crucial developmental period
- Birthing professionals such as doula’s, midwives, and childbirth educators
- Parents who want to understand the origins of their own behavior, in order to become better parents, and who also want to gain some insight into their children's journey in to life
- Seekers who desire to know more about how their early Soul, cellular and limbic imprints are present in their life now
Throughout the series we will introduce and build on the areas of imprinting, memory, and bonding and attachment as they pertain to early development.
Class 1: LAYING THE GROUND
Introduction to the principles of Prenatal & Perinatal Psychology & Health
Laying the ground and forming the group.
Setting our intentions.
Explanation and setting up of a birth exercise that will be your homework throughout the series.
Class 2: BEGINNINGS
A talk on pre-conception and conception.
Visualization/regression followed by drawing/writing, and group sharing, with attention paid to sensation, and grounding the new information in the body.
Conception is our first experience of embodiment. It is also the
point at which we receive our first impressions
of sexuality and relationship. The kind
of relationship our parents had, and the
way we were conceived, has a deep impact
upon us all.
How is our conception present in our life and relationships now?
How do we come to beginnings in our life?
How do we come into our body?
Class 3: IN THE WOMB
A talk on womb imprints and trauma.
We will explore some aspects of your womb experience, which will be followed by group sharing and discussion.
Were you alone in the womb? Was it an inviting womb in which you
were wanted and prepared for? How is the
prenatal environment in which you marinated,
and the events at that time, present in
your life now? Early imprints laid
down in the womb can go on affecting our
lives profoundly.
Some of the aspects of our life that are touched and shaped by this
period of development include our birth,
bonding, relationships, health, spirituality,
attachment patterns, and how we birth and
parent our kids.
Class 4: BIRTH
A talk about birth and birth trauma.
What effect can a ‘good’ birth have upon our sense of ourselves, and on our ability to competently move through projects from beginning to end? Did you know that the relationship that twins have in the womb, continues outside the womb?
The information you have gathered in the homework exercise over the series will help you to discover some birth information. You will see how your birth is present in your daily life, particularly in how you experience and manage transitions, and how you sequence through events and projects from beginning to end. E.g. some people have a difficult time beginning/initiating, others get stuck in the middle, and others find it hard to finish.
Class 5: THE PRINCIPLES DEMONSTRATED
Learning a new way of listening to our selves, and to others.
A demonstration session (1-1-1/2 hour) of Prenatal & Birth Therapy. A group member will be a demo person in a session facilitated by one or both of us, and supported by the whole group.
Class 6: INTEGRATION
We will take some time, using group exercises, discussion and group process, to integrate all we have been learning and experiencing in the series.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
You will learn about the nature of early imprints, how these imprints and memories show up in our lives, and how we can begin to learn to listen to them in ourselves, and in others. Often young parts of ourselves are in charge of areas of our life, keeping us caught in old patterns of behavior, old beliefs, perceptions and relationship dynamics, from long ago.
Explore how it was for you to come here to this life from pre-conception to conception; begin to discover how it was for you to be in the womb; and start to understand some of the affects of your birth. Our Journey Into Life affects us all profoundly on a daily basis; consciousness and healing bought to those tender places can change us deeply.
